| MISSION AND HISTORY
St. Angela Merici Parish was established
in 1962. The church, with four classrooms, was dedicated
in June, 1964. The Ursuline Sisters of Owensboro, Kentucky,
established St. Angela Merici School in September, 1965,
with an enrollment of 163 students in grades 1 – 4
and a faculty of four. The school was enlarged in 1966
when the main school building with eight additional classrooms
was opened. In 1980, two more classrooms and the gymnasium
were dedicated. In 1987, two classrooms, the library,
music room and school office were dedicated. In 1997,
kindergarten classrooms were added to the main complex.
We offer Grades Pre-K thru 8. Our staff
consists of 17 teachers, art music, computer and physical
education teachers, a part-time Learning Consultant,
and a school librarian.
Our curriculum includes religion, mathematics,
science, language arts, social studies, Spanish, computer
technology, music, art and physical education. All students
have two computer classes in our fully equipped computer
lab. There are additional computers in all classrooms.
All classrooms are wired for the Internet, cable programming
and local area network for school transmissions.
Our library is “state of the
art.” It is fully computerized with over 10,000
books and resource materials. It also has computers for
research and a laser disc player with many educational
programs.
In addition to the educational aspects
of our school, we also have many extracurricular activities.
We have an active Student Council, a national Junior
Honor Society, a Bellarmine Speech Team, a student cantor group,
a Christmas and Spring program, and student altar servers.
There is also a Scouting program and the
St. Angela Merici Athletic Program.
We have a prepared lunch program with
the food prepared at Trinity High School and transported
to our school daily. The cost is reasonable and participation
is optional.
St. Angela Merici School enjoys a wealth
of volunteers. Not only parents, but also grandparents
and other parishioners who volunteer their time in many
ways to benefit our school. Having these adults participate
in our school enriches our students greatly.
We are proud of the fine tradition
of education developed at our school. We feel confident
our students are prepared spiritually, educationally,
and socially to meet the future they will eventually
encounter.
